Visiting Cerro Amigo in El Bolsón (Patagonia)

Of all the trails El Bolsón offers travelers, this is one of the easiest. Cerro Amigo is about 2 kilometers from the center, in a reserve area established to protect the cypress forest that covers its slopes.

Known by locals as “Cerrito de la Cruz,” it can be accessed by car or by walking to the reserve parking lot year-round. It has three viewpoints from which you can enjoy excellent views of the entire town, the valley, the mountain range, and Cerro Piltriquitrón.
This park covers an area of 53.22 hectares and was established to protect the cypress forest that covers its slopes, one of the few native species remaining in forest formation in the world.
It also preserves other species such as Radal, Laura, Ñire, and Maitén. Among the shrubs found in the area we can mention Michay, Mosqueta, Maqui, Retamo, Blackthorn, Amancay, Mutisias, Honey Grass, etc. Added to these varieties are lichens, mountain beard, mosses, fungi and liverworts.
